"One World, One Heart ... Building a Better Tomorrow"
New Years Greetings, Candlewood Lions!
As we conclude 2002, we joyfully welcome newly inducted Lions Jean Knopf and
Donna Larsen to our Candlewood family that now numbers 46. Congratulations! Thank you Lion Bob Gy/e for conducting the meaningful candlelight ceremony that renews our commitment to Lionism. You are all to be congratulated for the hard work and dedication that has brought such success to our club this Lion's year.
At our most recent undertaking, the chifdren's holiday magic party, you were rewarded through the grateful smiles and hugs of 22 disadvantaged 5-10 year olds from Green Chimney. They departed with their fire hats and mini-radios saying, "We'll see you next year." You took time from your busy lives at this busy time of year to bring great joy to youngsters who have known little. The tours by the firefighters, the hot dog luncheon, and Santa, our own Lion Ed Smith and his Mrs. Santa Joan, were truly appreciated. Vice District Governor, Lion Bob Redenz of New Fairfield honored us with his presence. Special thanks goes to Lion Tracy Poeti, who chaired the event, to Lion Magic Marty who brought his own special magic, plus 7 other magicians, and a holiday clown, Ms. Bubbles, and to Lions Lovie and Fred Bourne and Lion Fran Allan of the food brigade. Let's not forget our tour guides, New Fairfield's firefighters! To all cookie bakers, chaperones, decorators, and organizers sincere thanks. That includes Lions Bob, Nancy, Othella, Pat, Rob, Jean K., Wendy, Jean H., Donna B, Hmery, Donna L., Marietta, and Sandy Cox. What a very special team!
Thank you to all who attended the CRIS breakfast that raised needed funds for the Connecticut Lions radio for the blind. Our holiday gala at the Ethan Allen Inn was made merrier with the lovely ornaments, donated by our own Lion Jodi Rell. Thank you, Lion Jodi! We were pleased that Lion-at-Heart, Pat Martin, pulled the winning raffle ticket for the basket that she designed and donated. Thank you, Pat. We raised more than $250.
We wish Lion Marianne Dahill a speedy recovery. Remember to reserve the weekend of Feb. 7-9. Come attend the Lions Western Hoe-Down at the Farmington Marriott! Once again thank you for the service that you have given in response to our Lions motto, We Serve.
