Our club is as strong as our members..... Keep our club strong......

Jean Knopf
President, 2006-2007

Dear Candlewood Lion Members,

First, I would like to extend our best wishes to Lion Othella Mays who took a fall and hurt her back in February.  I spoke with Lion Othella and she said she is doing much better. She received the flowers the club sent her and she asked me to tell everyone how beautiful they were and to express her thanks.

Our fund raising committees have been hard at work.

The raffle kicked off at the Mid-Winter Convention the first weekend of February.  To date we have sold a total of $735.00 in tickets.  To cover the cost of our prizes we must sell $1,000.00 in tickets.  We are almost there.   We need to sell only $265.00 more and all monies thereafter will be profit to our club.  It is my hope in an effort to make this fundraiser profitable that members will team up to sell tickets on a Saturday morning or afternoon at either the New Fairfield Union Savings Branch or Stop and Shop on Mill Plain Road in Danbury.  A sign up sheet will be circulated at our next meeting asking for volunteers.  This is a great way for our club to raise the needed funds to support our Lion projects and the eight local charities we have chosen to support in the greater Danbury area.  If you have sold tickets please submit monies collected and ticket stubs to Lion Gerry Platania at our next meeting.

The Wine Tasting is scheduled for Thursday, March 22nd.  We have teamed up with Preserve New Fairfield to make this year’s event much bigger then any we have done in the pass.  It will be held at The Sculpture Barn on 3 Milltown Road in New Fairfield, CT.  Members might remember David and Carter Boyajian, the owners; from the meeting they allowed us to have in their wonderful gallery.  They have once again graciously opened their gallery to us to support our fundraising efforts with this event.  It will make a beautiful setting for our wine tasting so encourage all of your friends, neighbors and family to come and join us.

Exciting news from the dance committee.  They have just made arrangements to have DJ Bill Trotta the Morning Man from 98Q to be our DJ for the dance.  Bill brings a great deal of experience to our fundraiser and he will be able to assist us with the silent and live auctions.  I am also very exited that Governor Jodi Rell will again allow us to auction lunch for two with her at her residence in Hartford. The committee chairs will update us all at our next meeting of the plans for the dance.

As part of our obligations to Lion Projects for 2006-2007 our club has pledged a $1,000.00 donation to the SightFirst II Champaign.  In an effort to help clubs raise the funds they have pledged our zone has planned a fundraiser.  On May 6th they have made arrangements for the Westchester Broadway Theatre to offer their facility to us to sell tickets for the play GREASE.  It will be at 12:00 PM and will include a seated lunch with a salad and choice of entrée.  Desert, coffee, tea, tax and tip are included.  The cost will be $85.00 per person or $105.00 pp for Luxury Box.   Lion Seamus Walsh is the contact person for our club.  You can reach him at 860-210-2676 or email him at Portions of the proceeds from the ticket our club sells will go towards our pledge to SightFirst II.
