"One World, One Heart ... Building a Better Tomorrow"

Spring Greetings, Candlewood Lions!

How grateful we were to welcome spring with Lion Lisa Sloan, her guide dog Xing, and Lions Fidelco Liaison Lion Bob Kirsch.  Their presentation and dedication is inspiring.  Fidelco invites us to their Lions Day on April 12th.  Please come!  Our Wine Tasting Fund-raiser netted us over $1,000 with more than 80 in attendance, thanks to Bill Crandall of Discount Liquors and chairs Lions Joan and Ed Smith.  Our dynamic guest speaker, Past District Governor Bill Phillips of Orange, won our raffle.  Thank you, Lion Lovie, for putting together such a great basket.  Candlewood was represented at Lions Day with the UN by Lions Lovie, Jean K., Marlene, and yours truly.  800 Lions from 20 countries and 35 states joined us.  Our Lions Day at Yale's Eye Research Center was an educational high, as 5 research doctors greeted us in their labs, where they explained their projects and our Lions help in achieving their goals.  Thank you Lions-to-Be Peg and Jerry King, Lion Pam, and Lion Lovie for joining me.  I was privileged to represent us at the Lions New England Council Dinner with International President Kay Fukushima in Boston.  It was an Inspiring gathering; a first for our regional Lions, and a monetary coup as more than $50,000 was raised for LCIF.  Our major fundraiser of the year is only a few days away.  Please get your tables together for "Mr. Rios' Legacy", our mystery dinner theater gala!  Its success is up to you!  Sponsors are being sought this year for our program booklet at $25. Contact Lion Rob or Lion Nancy if you or your business would like to be a sponsor.  Our Gourmet Dinner will take place on April 26th with Lion Chef Veronica.  Special guest speaker, Dr. Jerry Labriola, will talk about "America's Fascination with the Murder Mystery" at our May 22nd meeting. Dr. Labriola is Dr. Henry Lee's "partner-in-crime". Ask prospective members to attend.  A warm Candlewood welcome is extended to Lions Peggy and Jerry King, inducted by Past District Governor Al Hazard of the Danbury Lions Club.  Our thoughts and prayers are with our brave service men and women in Iraq.
