"One World, One Heart ... Building a Better Tomorrow"

Greetings, Candlewood Lions!

Once again our mystery dinner theater gala was a grand success with 110 in attendance and $2,500 in profit.  The new "Sponsors Page" brought us $650 thanks to the hard work of  Lions Jean Knopf and Donna Larsen.  Sincere thanks to all Lions who made this major undertaking possible.  A special thank you is extended to the Union Savings Bank for sponsoring two tables this year!  Candlewood participated in the Tortoise and Hare Race to raise funds for Good Friend and Green Chimneys.  Thank you, Lions Lovie, Fred, Magic Marty, and Marietta for representing us.  We have been invited to tour the Green Chimneys campus and to attend their Volunteers' Appreciation Dinner on June 6.  Our Lions "Bunny Money" netted us $500, thanks again to Union Savings Bank and our own Lions Marlene, Donna L., and Jean K.  The 82nd Connecticut Lions Convention was proudly attended by Lion Jean Knopf and yours truly in the beautiful Poconos.  International Director Pat Shurley from Oklahoma was our dynamic keynote speaker.  Lions Clubs are now in 191 countries, including Vatican City and China.  You are one of 1,345,000 Lions world-wide!  Our club's name (and a paw print) will be engraved on a brick that will be part of the Brick Walkway that welcomes visitors to Fidelco.  It honors each of You!  Every guide dog costs $20,000 to service a sightless person.  On June 5 Candlewood Lions will travel to our sponsoring club's meeting in Wallingford to officially name "Zing" our guide dog mascot.  Come join us on this "historic" visit.  Our Lion Pat Martin has received a special commendation from the Veteran's Association for her $600 patriotic pin sale donation.  The proceeds benefited our men and women serving in Iraq.
Congratulations and thank you, Lion Pat, for your patriotic service.  Dr. Jerry Labriola speaks to us on "America's Fascination with the Murder Mystery" on Thursday, May 22 at Chuck's.  You will enjoy Dr. Henry Lee's "Partner-in Crime" and be fascinated by this Connecticut sleuth and writer.  Three of his medical mystery novels will be included in our "Summertime
Mystery Raffle".  Please come and bring some friends.  Dinner, Salad Bar, Lecture, and Dessert for just $20.  Call me for reservations by May 19.
