We celebrate summer at the President's Picnic and anticipate a new Lions year with the motto, "One World, One Heart". As the 2003 International Convention will be held next July in Denver's Mile High City, a western theme will permeate all major gatherings. So get those cowboy boots and ten-gallon hats ready for some two-stepping! Dallas will be the site of the first western event at September's USA-Canada Leadership Forum. Candlewood's first meeting on Thursday, September 12 will bring the new Governor to our 7:30 AM breakfast. Lion Governor Marinus deJongh will travel from Madison. Let's greet him with a warm Candlewood welcome at The American Pie Company. Our installation of new officers was full of "fireworks" in celebration, "real fireworks", from the lightening that hit the transformer in front of Ernie's. Only candles lighted the candlelight ceremony! Congratulations to all new officers and award recipients. Lion Magic Marty and Lion Webmaster Rob Farella joined me in being named Melvin Jones Fellows. I was equally humbled to be named a Knight of the Blind; the award presented to me by Brookfield Lion David Moissonnier, a special friend. Past District Governor Curt Fitch of New Milford conducted the ceremony at which I became your leader for a second term with Lion Lovie Bourne my new right hand. The presence of my Jennifer, Rob, Kristen, and granddaughter Emily completed the special evening for me. Thank you for the honors. An ambitious year begins! There will be our chili festival, wine tasting, children's magic show, holiday craft show and gathering, gourmet cooking demo, charity breakfasts, and interesting speakers to keep us informed. New members are actively being sought!
