Dear Candlewood Lion Members,

It is hard to believe but the hot, humid summer is almost behind us.  Despite the heat many of our members came out in support of events in the month of August.

On August 6th Lion Marty Steinberg and his wife Gail served as host to their 2nd Brunch and Garden Party at their home.  Everyone enjoyed a wonderful International Buffet and then spent the afternoon exploring the beautiful gardens of Cold Spring in New York.  In Lion Marty’s words Cold Springs is a “true horticultural fantasy” and everyone who attended said it was a wonderful experience.  Thank you to Gail and Lion Marty for opening their home and bringing this opportunity to all of us.

Thank you also to Lions Bob and Norma Gyle.  They hosted the annual picnic for our club on August 21st…  It was a hot, humid day but Lion Bob fired up the grill and cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for all of us.  Approximately 41 members and friends were in attendance and three new Lions were installed by Lion Bob.  Welcome to new Lions Lynn Platania, Kathy Confere and Ann Marie Sanchez.

Congratulations to Lion Seamus Walsh and Lion Michelle Gauthier who were married on August 13th in Brookfield.

Ability Beyond Disability will be hosting their 2nd Walk Beyond Disability to raise funds to support their organization.  It will be held on October 16th  from 9 AM to 1 PM.  Lion Marty Steinberg suggested this would be an excellent event for our club to get involved with to serve our community.   It was also suggested by Lion Marlene Lamendola that our club could pass out cold bottle water during the event.  In this way members who would not want to walk could still take part in the event.  Lion Marty will be discussing this event at our September meetings.  If you are interested in walking please contact Lion Marty.

Thursday, 9/1st at New Fairfield Senior Center……Business Meeting @ 7:30 am

Tuesday, 9/6th at Union Savings Bank, New Fairfield……Board Meeting @ 6:30 pm

Thursday, 9/15th at Biscotti’s Restaurant, New Fairfield…..Dinner meeting with guest speaker @ 6:30 pm

The October evening meeting had to be changed from October Thursday, 20th to Thursday, October 27th.

In closing I would like to thank all the members who have volunteered to Chair committees and work on the committees this year.   As we get closer to the date of the events the Chair will be calling on members to ask them to join in on the committees. Working on a committee not only allows us to be a part of raising funds to give back to our communities;  it is also an opportunity to share some laughs and get to know fellow members.  I have enclosed a list of our committees and Chairpersons for you to review…If there is a committee you would like to be a part of  please call the chairperson….  Our club is as strong as our members…we have a club to be proud of….so come on and join in on the fun.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the September meetings.

Lion Jean
