Our club is as strong as our members..... Keep our club strong......
Dear Candlewood Lion Members,
International President Jimmy Ross has asked all clubs to dedicated one of their meetings to a Renewal Initiative with an open discussion of what we liked about our club’s performance, what we feel should be changed or updated and how in general the members feel we could make improvements to retain members and attract new. Our September meetings were dedicated to this and our members brought some wonderful ideas forward. Lion Seamus will be completing a report for IP Jimmy Ross that will outline our thoughts. I have asked him to forward a copy on to all members once it is completed to update everyone on what was discussed. Your suggestion and ideas are always welcomed. Please keep them coming.
One thought that was brought forward was to have a different type of speaker at the meetings then we have had in the past. In an effort to capture all members’ interest I am asking any member who has a suggestion for a speaker to please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I will do what I can to contact these speakers for our meetings starting in January.
I have asked Lion Beth Handsman and Lion Seamus Walsh to prepare our October meeting. The theme will be “Everything You Have Always Wanted To Know About Lions, But Were Afraid To Ask” The panel will consist of Lion Bob Gyle, Lion Linda Maggs (Ridgefield Lions Club) and Lion Frank Molinaro and Lion Fran Evans (Danbury Lions Club) This is a wonderful opportunity to learn what it means to be a Lion and the good we do worldwide. I would like questions ahead of time to ensure we have them for the panel. Please write down your questions and email them to Lion Beth at email@example.com . This is an opportunity for all of us to learn and grow as Lions. Also, please RSVP to Lion Seamus or Lion Beth by Oct 20th to allow us to give a count to the restaurant.
On October 21st an Eye Screening will be held at the Danbury Mall. This is a Zone Projects and all clubs have been asked to volunteer. Lion Marty has agreed to be the contact person for our club. If you would like to volunteer or have any questions please call or email him.
On October 17th Lion Beth Handsman’s company is supporting a fund raiser breakfast “Home for the Troops” at the Amber Room in New Fairfield. Proceeds will benefit disabled veterans. Please contact Lion Beth for more details if you would like to attend.
Our meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of each month. However, for the month of October only, the evening meeting will have to be scheduled for the 4th Thursday of the month, OCTOBER 26th. This change is just for the month of October only.
Internationally acclaimed tenor, Anthony Kearns (one third of the world renowned trio, The Irish Tenors) will be appearing at the Belding Theater at the Bushnell on Saturday, October 28th. All proceeds from this event will go to benefit the CT Lions Eye Research Foundation.
Ticket cost: $63.00 includes Post Concert Reception with Mr. Kearns or $38.00 General Admission. To purchase tickets call (888) 824-2874 or online http://www.Bushnell.org. For anyone who has not had the pleasure of attending a concert by Mr. Kearns you are in for a wonderful evening.
I would like to send our wishes for a speedy recovery to Lion Allison Downs. Allison had surgery in August and is recuperating at home. She received the flowers sent by the club and sent a thank you note to express her appreciation to all members.
Lion Beth Handsman spoke to me about a fun idea for members to do for the Holidays. Her suggestion was to have a cookie swap. All members who would like to take part would bring homemade cookies. (Amount to be decided by how many attend) All cookies would be displayed and while we have tea or coffee you would fill your dish with an assortment of holiday cookies to take home and enjoy with your families. What a great way to share some holiday cheer. If you are interested please contact Lion Beth. If we have enough members interested she will continue with the arrangements.
