President, 2004-2005

Dear Candlewood Lion Members,

Well I’m still learning publisher so you’ll have to put up with this format for at least another month.  We’ve been busy during October and for those of you who have attended the meetings, you’ve heard the reports on our successful car wash and Chili Contest.  Lion Alice will have pictures and a write up in the papers soon on the Chili Contest. On a personal note I’d like to thank Lion Alice for again maintaining a scrap book of our activities this year.

.Our next meeting is Thursday morning 7:30 am,  November 4th  at the American Pie Company don’t forget we change our meeting weeks to the 1st and 3rd Thursday’s for the month’s of November and December.

.Our evening meeting in will be held on November 18th at a different venue.  The meeting will be held at 6:30 PM at Franco ristorante on Federal Road in Brookfield.  It’s past COSTCO on the right at the entrance to the Fox Hill Inn.   You may remember its former name, Capers.  The cost will be $20.00 per person.

.Our November Board of Directors Meeting will be held on Monday, November 8th at the New Fairfield Union Savings Bank an 6:30 PM.  All club members are invited to attend in addition to the Board of Directors.  Just let Lion Marlene Lamendola 746-7690 know so we can order in enough food.

.Lion Kris Hodge did an outstanding job in getting the Chili Contest organized and I’m happy to report that she has been able to confirm that Shaw’s will assist with contributions for Food Certificates for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. and we will continue the contributions made at our meetings through December. Great work, Kris.

.Enclosed with this missive you will find a few items. One is the flyer for the Lions Car Rally which is going to be held on Sunday, November 14th.  This event is a club event for our members and their friends. It is a fund raiser but will not be advertised to the general public due to the limited number of entries (60).  My family already has 3 cars entered, so I suggest you get your name on the list soon.  Contact me as you arrange for entries.  The reason for the 60 entry limit is to allow all cars to finish within the 2-3 hour expected time.  There is no minimum or maximum limit capacity per vehicle but from experience 4 is more than enough to argue over the correct directions.  The rally will end at the finish line, a location that you will have to find.  I think it will be fun for all who participate.  Those who sign up first will be the first to start.

.Also enclosed is a Membership Application.  Each of you now has one.  Use it!   Your Membership Team Captain will start reporting to the club board at the January Board of Directors meeting.  Just Ask!  You’d be surprised about how many folks you meet everyday would like to be Lions if you just ask.

.We may be changing the date of the Green Chimneys gathering due to the scheduling of the Firehouse.  You will be notified if it needs to be changed.  If it’s held on December 11th it may have to be moved to the Senior Center or we could have the Firehouse on the 18th. We’ll let you know.

.Your officers will be attending a Zone meeting on Tuesday, November 16th.

.The Partridge in a Pear Tree participation is in the capable hands of Lion Alice and Lion Fran.  They are seeking volunteers to sign up for various time slots on Saturday, December 4th.

.Please remember to pay your dues.  We’ve paid our assessments to the District and Lions International and need all of our members to remain current.

.We’ve invited our District Governor Lion John Gagain and his wife Rosemarie to make his official visit at                   our Christmas Gathering so we can all meet him and enjoy his company,  December 16th at the Ethan Allen in Danbury.

.Our guest speaker at the November  evening meeting on the 18th will be Lion Linda Maggs from Ridgefield, who will speak about the Governor’s Special Project - Companion Dogs.

.I was pleased to present to Lion Fred in Lion Lovie’s absence a Certificate awarded to our club for being a 100% club last year.  Congratulations Lion Lovie.

.We have 55 club members and yet we are not seeing as good an attendance as we should have.  Try to make the meetings and I’ll try to make them worthwhile.
