President, 2006-2007

Dear Candlewood Lion Members,

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving with their families.  Now we are all getting ready for a busy holiday season ahead of us.

I would like to welcome our newest member, Lola Vena, who was sponsored by our Membership Chair, Lion Beth Handsman.  Lion Bob Gyle installed Lola at our November meeting. Also at our November meeting Lion Rob Farella, our Webmaster, did a presentation which guided us through the Candlewood Lions Club website.  Lion Rob puts a great deal of effort into setting up and updating information for our club.  I encourage all members to go on line to and checkout all the information about our club.  Pictures from all of our events over the last few years are also available for your review.  This is a great tool to use when recruiting new members. Lion Rob has also added applications for membership to our website.  Once again, thank you to Lion Rob for the time and effort he gives to our club to bring this information to us.

Lion Marlene Lamendola and Lion Greg Sloma have been busy planning our club’s Holiday party.  It will be held on December 14th at Two Steps in Danbury starting with a cocktail hour at 6 pm.  They have planned a festive evening for all members to enjoy. Our District Governor Joe Poirier and his wife Lion Kathy will be our guests.  Lions Jerry and Peggy King will lead us in Christmas carols and of course, Lion Alice Hoxie will share her Christmas Bells and lead us in The Twelve Days of Christmas.  I have also heard a rumor that Santa might even make an appearance.   Invitations will be coming soon.

On December 9th our club will be hosting the Green Chimney Children’s Christmas Party.  Lion Fran Allen has been working hard with her committee to plan a fun filled afternoon for the children and of course Santa will be there to bring joy to all.

Lion Alice Hoxie has the 2007 Entertainment Books available.  The cost is $25.00 per book, they make great Christmas presents.  Please contact her at 860-350-6600 to purchase.

I received a letter of thanks from the New Fairfield Director of Social Services, Cindy White, thanking all members of our club for their contributions to the New Fairfield Food Pantry early this fall. Lion Marlene has been contacted by Cindy again asking for our help.  They are in need of personal items and canned meats.   It was suggested that members bring an item to our Christmas Party to help out with this worthy cause.  A list of what is needed will be enclosed with your invitation to the party if you choose to bring an item.

The Mid-Winter Conference is coming quickly.  It will be held once again at the Farmington Marriott Hotel in Farmington, CT on Friday, 2/2/07 through Sunday, 2/4/07.  Last year several members attended the Friday night festivities and had a wonderful evening.  Lions Bob and Norma Gyle arranged dinner for all of us at a great restaurant and we then returned to the Marriott to spend the evening dancing and meeting Lions from throughout the district.  On Saturday seminars are provide if you wish to attend and a banquet dinner on Saturday evening.  This is a great weekend and fun event and I hope we can encourage more members to join us this year.  I have applications which I can send to you to register.
